Special Programs & Services

I would like to also mention a few of the proactive programs that we are involved in at the Police Department.

1. We are involved with the gun lock program where we are distributing free gun locks to the public. This program is being funded by the Maine Citizens Against Handgun Violence Foundation who provided the locks to many Maine Police Departments. One does not have to be a resident to qualify for a lock and they can be picked up at the Communications Center in Village West at Sugarloaf.

2. We are also distributing Child Identification kits which consist of a pamphlet containing a place for a photograph, a place for medical information, ie; blood type, medications, allergies, doctor's name. It also contains a place for a hair sample for DNA purposes, a spot for fingerprints including an ink sample, and a dental chart. The kit can be picked up at the Communications Center and completed at home and then kept by the parent in a safe deposit box or other safe place. This program was funded in partnership with United Kingfield Bank.

3. The other program consists of our personal property record and ski / snowboard registration. We have conveniently organized a folder that assists you with identifying household items such as guns, stereo equipment, etc and it can also be kept in a safe place or can be returned to us. The ski and board registration is a program that we record your serial numbers and keep them in a data base in the event of a theft. We can then send a nationwide teletype with the description of the equipment with the numbers. The skis or board can be affixed with a sticker that indicates that the equipment is registered with the Police department. This program has been in effect for about 15 years and we have been very successful with it. We have registered over 15,000 pairs of skis and boards since its inception.

4. If you are going to be away from home for an extended period of time, please feel free to contact our office so that we can give your property special attention.

Dog Registrations are due for renewal by 1/31/2012.  There is a $25 per dog late fee on top of the registration fee any time after this date.

2011 Tax Reminder notices were mailed on 12-13-11:
Please call for an accurate interest amount before paying your 2011 taxes. If you did not receive your tax bill, please call the Town Office (207-235-2645) to let us know.  We may need to update your contact information.  Any unpaid tax amounts will appear in the 2011 Town Report if not received by December 31st.    

Carriage Road - Carriage Road is CLOSED for the 2011/2012 winter season.  There will be tree harvesting activity on the Carriage Road, and we will see significant use by heavy large trucks.  Carriage Road is NOT SAFE to use for individual traffic!!! Please call the Town Office if you have questions.  207-235-2645.
