NARROW GAUGE PATHWAY
'Carrabassett Valley Narrow Gauge
Pathway and Campbell Field Bridge have reopened'
The Town of Carrabassett Valley is pleased to
announce that a portion of the Narrow Gauge Pathway and the bridge at Campbell
Field are now re-opened for public use. Contractors have repaired the damage
from Hurricane 'Irene" from Rt.27 just north of the Sugarloaf Access Road south
to the so-called "s-turns". In addition, repairs have been made to the Pathway
south of the "s-turns". The bridge at Campbell Field has been repaired and
placed back in service. In anticipation of funding, the Town is currently
working with F.E.M.A. representatives to determine the most cost
effective solution to repair the major damage to the Pathway in the
so-called "s-turns". The Town anticipates completing a major restoration
project on this part of the Pathway in 2012. In the meantime, Town officials are
working with Maine Huts and Trails representatives to participate in building
a "by-pass" trail that would start at approximately the south end of
the Pathway that would extend north approximately two miles to reconnect with
the Pathway in the area of the so-called "Crommett's Overlook" trail. This trail
will eventually become a permanent Maine Huts and Trails trail in the future. If
you have any questions regarding use of the Pathway please feel free to call the
Carrabassett Valley Town Office.
A non-motorized use trail. Choose to start at one of the approved parking trailheads, Campbell Field, the Anti Gravity Center, or the Carrabassett Valley Town Park. The trail is approximately (6 miles) with a gradual increase in grade from the southernmost trailhead, the Carrabassett Town Office. Both Campbell Field & the Anti-Gravity Center trailheads provide a relaxing down hill ride, with a more challenging return ride. Picnic areas are located along the trail for your convenience. Please be respectful of all public and private lands in Carrabassett Valley by cleaning up after your pets, carry in/carry out. Bikers please yield to Pedestrians.
