This office handles property owners, appraisers, real estate brokers, title companies, attorneys, and prospective buyers on a daily basis. Property assessment data is made accessible to the public during regular business hours.

If you need to meet with the Assessor it is best to call for an appointment.

Homestead Exemption: To qualify for a homestead exemption you must be a legal resident of the State of Maine and owned a homestead property for at least the past 12 months in the State of Maine. The homestead must be your permanent place of residence. Completed forms must be filed in my office by April 1. Once you have qualified for a Homestead Exemption you do not have to reapply each year unless you change properties. The Homestead Exemption provides a property exemption of up to $13,000 in valuation.

Veteran Exemption:
To qualify for a Veteran Exemption you must have reached the age of 62 by April 1, discharged other than dishonorable, be a legal resident of the State of Maine and served in the armed forces of the United States during any federally recognized war or campaign period. There are also Veteran Exemptions for Paraplegic Veteran, Veterans Widows, Veterans Minor Children and Mothers of Veterans. Please call the Town Office if you have any questions. Completed forms must be filed in our office by April 1st.

Personal Property Taxpayer's:
 All area businesses need to file a tax form for personal property held in their possession in the Town the property is located. It is very important that this form is filled out completely and returned to our office by April 1 of each year.

ASSESSING INFORMATION :

Tax Rate: $5.80 per thousand dollars of valuation
Fiscal Year: January 1 through December 31
Property Tax Due Date: September 30, 2007
Interest Rate: 7.5 %
Assessment Date: April 1, 2007
Commitment Date: June 22, 2007

Carrabassett Valley's Annual Town Meeting will be held March 10, 2010, Officer elections will be held at the Town Office from 8:00 am. to 6:00 pm.  The Moderator for the Town Meeting will be elected at 8:00 am.  We will reconvene at the Outdoor Center at 7:30 pm for the remaining articles.  Absentee ballots are available at the Town Office starting February 9, 2010.

2009 Dog Licenses have expired.  2010 licenses are available at the Town Office.    There will be a late fee of $15 per dog if register your dog after January 29, 2010.  Proof of rabies is required.  $6 for spayed or neutered, $11 for an unaltered dog.  Please call the Town Office if you have questions.

2009 Taxes are past due.  Interest started to accrue daily as of 10/1/2009.  Please call for a correct amount due.  207-235-2645.  If you have not received your tax bill, or if you have had a recent change in your mailing address please contact the Town Office, we may not have received an update.  Please remember that the Town's books close on December 31, 2009 at 12:00 noon.  Any tax account's that remain unpaid will appear in the Town's 2009 Annual Report.
